i saw beirut last night. it was incredible. they played everything i wanted to hear except “in the mausoleum.” that moment about halfway into “the shrew” (1:48 in THIS VIDEO) when the horns get all nuts was probably one of the most life-affirming concert moments of my life, as was every second of “mount wroclai.” i am the kind of person who thinks everything is better with a lot of brass, so last night was basically the ideal concert, because basically every song was a crazy brass onslaught, as i was directly in front of the trumpet player and very adjacent to the trombone / tuba guy and zach with his flugelhorn.
this text message, which i sent to my friend danielle, is self-explanatory. word to the wise: don’t comment on the pinchable cheeks of a band member when you are about three feet from them.
